    The Challenge

Children’s Health Queensland provides specialist pediatric care and clinical guidance across one of Australia’s largest and most geographically dispersed states. Its request management system was becoming outdated, limiting how quickly clinicians could connect with specialists.

The organization needed a secure, intuitive platform that could surface requests in near real time, protect sensitive patient information, and scale as request volumes grew. It also wanted the application to establish a repeatable model for wider Microsoft Azure adoption.

    The Solution

We designed and delivered a cloud-native request management platform using .NET and Microsoft Azure. Azure App Services supports the application’s front end and back end, while Azure Event Grid processes and routes clinicians’ requests in near real time. Azure Front Door provides responsive access across Queensland, supported by integrated web application firewall capabilities.

Designed around clinicians working under pressure, the platform makes it easier to submit, track, triage, and respond to requests. It also gives Children’s Health Queensland clearer visibility across the request lifecycle and provides a secure foundation for future cloud-based services.

    The Results

Near-real-time processing for faster access to specialist advice

Intuitive interface for a simpler clinician experience

Azure-based platform thats more secure, scalable and has reusable architecture

    Our Process

We turned operational evidence into a practical roadmap for process improvement, technology investment and future delivery.

    Discovery

We assessed the existing request management system and worked with Children’s Health Queensland to understand the needs of clinicians, specialists, and the wider organization. This established the platform’s core requirements around security, usability, responsiveness, and statewide scalability.

    Design

The team designed a cloud-native architecture using .NET and Microsoft Azure. The application experience was structured around the needs of clinicians submitting requests and specialists managing incoming cases, with security incorporated throughout the design.

    Deliverables

We defined the application architecture, user experience, security controls, and deployment practices required to support the new platform. The engagement also produced a documented and repeatable development model for future cloud-based initiatives.

    Development

We built and deployed the application using Azure App Services, Azure Event Grid, and Azure Front Door. The completed platform supports near-real-time request routing, secure statewide access, centralized reporting, and clearer visibility across the request lifecycle.
