    The Challenge

    A UK run-off insurer relied on a large PowerBuilder estate built over more than two decades, with little formal documentation. As experienced developers left the business, critical knowledge about system functionality, dependencies and business processes was at risk of being lost. Creating documentation manually would have required significant developer effort, making a full estate-wide documentation programme difficult to justify and maintain.

    The Solution

    Synechron developed an AI-powered documentation pipeline using the OpenAI API to analyze PowerBuilder modules and generate two structured artefacts for every component. Technical specifications provided developers with insights into dependencies, data flows and implementation details, while business summaries translated complex code into plain English for analysts, operations teams and compliance stakeholders. All outputs were generated in structured Markdown and routed through a lightweight human review process.
